Tips for monitoring your parents’ health after 50

To start with, your parents may not be sick, but many of them at this age need medical care, even if they are under the condition of caution and precaution. These are observations I would like to share with you based on my observations during my mother’s reviews throughout the past years.

- When you think that your parents or one of them is in need of a medical examination, present it to them in a pleasant manner. Parents at this age often reject the idea of treatment or examination for a psychological barrier that is the lack of the need for anyone’s attention or care, accept that with open arms and try well to do so If you can, you will face categorical rejection, but do not despair, as in the end they often respond.

- Find, inquire and ask about the best doctor in the required field, you may not know much, but you can ask a doctor you trust, even from another field, because doctors know some of them and shorten a lot for you to reach an excellent doctor.

- Do not lose your money to your parents. Go to the best doctor, even if it is expensive. There is no one who is more expensive than your parents.

- When you go with one of your parents to the doctor, accompany one or more of your brothers or sisters, this generates a feeling of concern and gives parents the psychological comfort they need a lot, especially in the early stages.

- Do not complain about the road to go to the doctor, nor about the road congestion or the waiting lines in the clinic, be smiling and radiate an atmosphere of joy and laughter, be as if you are on a trip and do not show that what you are doing is a heavy burden and you want to get rid of it (if this is really something Feel it).

- Mothers love the company of their daughters in hospitals. Make sure that one of your sisters is with your mother when you visit the doctor.

– Get rid of your work and your obligations, there is no one who is more important than your parents, and if it requires morning reviews during your work time, take a vacation if necessary, and your parents are more important than work, no matter how important, and the majority of managers understand that.

- Let your father or mother talk to the doctor first, let them say what they have first and then add what you have at the end.

- Be organized, get to know your parents’ medicines, their names and dosages, help them get regular in taking them on time by using organized medicine boxes and smart phone applications to remind the dates of taking them, and inform the doctor about all their medicines so that there is no conflict or side effects of any new medicine.

- If you are married and live in another house, call your father or mother a day after the review and ask her about her condition and how she feels after the treatment, and be so easy on her and kindly with her that she will heal and recover. And call your younger siblings and ask them about the condition of your patient throughout the day, as they are often in a better position to monitor parents than you, and reward them for their interest in their parents and their concern for them, and instill in them a sense of responsibility early so that it is of course in them over time.

- Inform your brothers or sisters about the condition of your father or mother who you think are good behavior and watch for improvement and relapse, and stay away from news of those who are emotional or who do not behave well.

- Provide your parents with what will suffice them to go to hospitals for something routine such as blood pressure measuring devices, blood flow, oxygen device and their supplies. Do not save a riyal, it is enough for them to have trouble walking and waiting hours for something that you can bring home.
